Kevin Clouse: Racing More Than Just Endurance Sports

One of my triathletes is receiving special recognition in this post.  Kevin Clouse is one of the most driven triathletes I coach.  He completed an iron distance triathlon at the end of just his second year of triathlon.  This year he is working towards qualifying for nationals.  And these current goals are after he lost 150 lbs.

Myself and Kevin at the finish line of Beach 2 Battleship iron distance triathlon.

But Kevin is not only "fast" and "driven" at triathlon.  He also owns a customized Mustang stock racing car.  Here he is "dropping the hammer."

Here are a few more pictures from when we went up to watch him race (drag race his Mustang, that is.)

It was a beautiful night; we had raced McMinnville Triathlon that am.

A few of Kevin's cheering section...these ladies all did a triathlon that morning.

Kevin stopped by our tailgate and paid us a visit between runs.

There was quite a line to sit in the race car at the end of the night.

No Way! This guy was wearing a pink tutu during the run.

Nate Wangerin Finishes San Juan Solistice 50 Miler

I have known Nate since 10 years ago, when he was a youngblood college freshan, and I was coaching him to his first triathlon at University of Missouri.  Since then he has graduated, started a family with 3 beautiful children, and become the owner of multiple companies.

One thing I have admired about Nate is that even with all his life responsibilities, he continues to take on endurance goals.  He works hard, and is a dedicate husband and father; yet he still makes time to take on some hard training.  So when he called me up and said he was thinking about doing a 50 miler I knew two things: 1) This would push Nate to the limits of his abilities, and 2) I would do anything I could to help him complete it.

Nate (on right) and I after a training run at The Flat Irons in Boulder, CO.

As an adviser I helped Nate develop a weekly and monthly training template and advised him on nutrition.  Then whenever he called me worried about setbacks and challenges, I just reminded him to get plenty of recovery, lots of short east sessions, and focus on knocking out those long runs.

Team Member Profile: Jen Brooks

If you talked to Jen Brooks she would attempt to convince you that she has no athletic talent whatsoever.  On the contrary she has something much more valuable: A hard work ethic.  After a lackluster spring training she joined the STtrainer program to find a higher level of challenge in her training.  She has been on a fairly impressive string of events lately:

McMinnville Tri   1:15
Harpeth River Ride  50 Mile Distance (Personal Best)
RC Cola Moon Pie  2:07:34
Seattle Rock N Roll Half Marathon   2:30:55

Jen did all these events in a 4-5 week period!
