Ashly Dewberry's Descending Half Iron Times
Photo: Ashly after IM Kansas 70.3, his first sub-5 hour half.
Ashly Dewberry's impressively descending half iron distance times this summer:
5:12:13 Gulf Coast Half Ironman (May)
4:55:37 Ironman Kansas 70.3 (June)
4:38:38 Cardinal Harbor Half (July)
Ashly (also know as "Mash") is aiming to make a statement at Ironman Wisconsin this September. He has been racing seriously for 3 years but has made a serious committment this year to take his game to the next level. We have worked on identifying his limiters and he is working on turning them into strengths.
Here are some great pictures of Ashly at Cardinal Harbor. This race is on the Ironman Louisville course so he got some great practice for that race. Lookin' good, Mash!

My Favorite Fortune Cookie
Photo: Kim's custom-made fortune cookies.
I work hard to see the success that my clients desire. It is sometimes a thankless job...coaxing clients to 5:30am training sessions, making them train in the rain, or go longer and harder than they ever imagined. While sometimes I ask why I do this to myself and them, little gestures like this make it all worth it.
Kim M. finished her first triathlon at Old Hickory Triathlon. At the team post-race party, she made a batch of fortune cookies for everyone (YUM!) A special one for me had this wonderful note in it:
Dear Stephen T-
You know...We could've done this without you, However not with this much success, this well, and certainly not having this much fun! Thank you for your undying patience, endless knowledge, constant support and mostly your inspiration!

Amber Lai Rocks Seattle Marathon
Amber Lai trained long and hard for the Seattle Marathon. She relegated her spring season of tris in order to focus on this goal, which was to break 4 hours. Well it paid off....she ran a 3:50:26 in her first marathon.
Photo: Amber described the conditions as nearly perfect but somewhat hilly. It makes me want to do this race.
Photo: Ignore the clock time; Amber's chip time was 3:50:26.
Photo: The hardware.
Photo: Amber doesn't only run. This is her on her rockin' new Orbea tri bike. Enjoy a few tris in your "off-season" Amber. Next goal: BQ (Boston Qualification.)

Benefits of this Craziness
Photo: Kevin H. at Memphis in May Triathlon
Kevin just sent me this e-mail reminding of a very real benefit of endurance training:
You spend a lot of time coaching us to improve speed and endurance in order to improve our race times. It is a fun and exciting process to train for these events. I recently received other results highlighting the true benefits of this craziness during a visit with my doctor. It was the first annual physical I had since I started training with you, and the results were great! I lost 23 pounds, received great results from the EKG, and the borderline high blood pressure and high cholesterol I had is gone. My doctor laughed when he took my pulse saying it was very low but good.
Even though this sport takes a times commitment, it is obvious the benefits will keep me around a lot longer.
